Switching for a Phillips head bit, I screwed the legs into the ‘ladder’ frame. Include washers on both ends of the bolt and then finger-tighten nuts to the bolts. Tighten the bolts securely with an adjustable wrench on all four posts. Leave a spray paint mark on the ground and then measure 12-feet away and make a second mark.
Since most of the force on the monkey bars is also downward force, I would imagine this would also work for the monkey bars. Going this route since the beams themselves will be heavier I would also beef up my connection points on each end. I think this will make them able to handle more weight total, but you may still have a bit of side to side sway, probably not enough to cause any issues though. Sorry for the slow response, I’ve had a busy couple weeks. From a strength standpoint yes, the galvanized bars held up between the 4X4s are extremely sturdy.
Step 7: Cut the Legs!
The sides of the top are made from two of the 2600mm lengths of pine and the first step was to figure out the spacing of the rungs, so I would know where to drill. Once we attached them we added the front 2×6 using bolts to go through to the otherside. Once we installed these posts, we attached the 2×6 so we knew where we wanted the other posts to be. With all that’s going on this year, we have wanted to give our kids a bit of normalcy and we have been transforming our backyard for all of us to enjoy. At the top corners of the frame, a "triangle" support is created using the 30 to 60 Degree Single Socket Tee.
I put some outdoor furniture oil on the dowel as I wanted to retain the timber look on the rungs. The process was simple but the flex was all but eliminated by this. Build the braces for the bottom supports from 2×4 lumber. Fit everything together tightly and use 2 1/2″ screws to lock everything together tightly. At the bottom of the frame, another "triangle" support is added to keep the structure stable. Again, the 30 to 60 Degree Single Socket Tee is used to add these supports.
How to Build a Lattice Panel Fence
Divide the run length by the number of bars plus 1 to find the spacing. Find the total length of your horizontal run in inches and write the number down. Add 1 to the number of rungs you have and then divide the length by that number. Your answer will be the distance you’ll use between each bar. Always check that the supports are level, or else the horizontal runs won’t sit evenly on them.
Ensure that the holes are facing each other, when the cedar posts are made to stand vertical. Get a set of monkey bars online or from an outdoor store. Monkey bar kits come with the bars and hardware you’ll need to attach them to your frame.

So we want to cover how and where to use each fitting, so you can build your own set of monkey bars. Yes, good mechanical practice would be to drill a pilot hole first, then put the lags in, which will avoid splitting the wood. The pilot hole should be a smaller diameter than the bolt, there are charts online to show the size of what your pilot hole should be for the size of bolt you are using. 1.5″ going through the 2X6 and 2.5″ going into the 4X4. You can continue building off of your monkey bars to add more fitness equipment. For example, you can attach a cargo net to the top of the run going down to the ground.
I regret putting mine as low as I did and I might rebuild one of the flip bars soon. I’m not sure on the ideal height because you need enough room to pull up and flip around on, but not so much that a mistake equals a trip to the ER. I think maybe around 5 and half feet would be a good height for her. If you want adults to use it, doing another one at another foot up would provide more utility, but might be a bit too tall for your daughter.

To figure out the angle of the cut, I lay my ‘ladder’ on its side and placed one 1600mm length square against the end, creating a right angle . I then took a second 1600mm length and put one side on top of the first one with the other on top of the ladder frame, creating a triangle. Fit 2×4 braces to the stand, so you lock everything together tightly. Cut both ends of the braces at 45 degrees and then secure them into place with 2 1/2″ screws and glue.
Measure 2 inches in from the edge and place a mark at the center of the board. Repeat this for the outside ends of both of the boards. Drill 5/8-inch-diameter holes through each of the boards at the marked positions. As mentioned above, the design pictured here differs slightly from Ben's design.

And I recently started a rental property business and this card is indispensable. Push the board firmly against the side of the post so there aren’t any gaps.
Place a 3 in (7.6 cm) wood screw 2 inches (5.1 cm) from the step’s top corner. Use an electric screwdriver to put the screw through the board and into the post. Then place another screw 2 inches (5.1 cm) in from the bottom corner on the same end. Attach the other end of the step to the second post the same way.
Mark the lengths on your boards and use a circular saw or hand saw to make your cuts. Save any scrap wood you have left since you may be able to use it later in the build.
